Unable to decide on a therapy?
You will always find reasons not to do something....
Im too busy - I have too many responsibilities - my job or family life are too demanding - I am not well enough - I dont know which way to turn - Im past being helped! - I cant afford it! - the list can be endless.
At some point and often it is the case, we feel like something has to give and we decide to attempt change or die! We need to desire change so much that it makes us do something about it. Frequently there is a catalyst - something happens and it changes our perspective - we lose a job or a loved one or become ill through stress. We get in a groove and it needs something or someone to jolt us out of it. Then we begin to see life from another perspective.
Often people are held back by a feeling of hopelessness and they think there is nothing that can be done. Think again! Difficulties in life can be very helpful if only to show us that there is another way to live. Making a decision can be easy - clearing the obstacles in our thinking may take longer. If you think you cannot afford therapy, ask yourself this: is what I am spending on things to help me feel better (and we all do this) giving me the result I want?
If you are unclear as to the type of therapy for the problem, then choose a therapist who has a holistic approach i.e. combining mind, body and spirit. Often situations are multifaceted and are rooted in all three parts of the whole. Therefore this approach can be more effective.
There is a saying that I love: the future belongs to those who create it. In taking personal responsibility for our life outcomes, we can take control and effect change. Possibilities are endless and heres another popular saying: a journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step. If we feel overwhelmed by a situation or problem, the important thing is to attempt change, one step at a time.
