Traumas

TraumasExamples of how Trauma can be helped through hypnotherapy

The word Trauma is like a big umbrella: it covers a lot of areas. Most people relate traumas to world disasters or physical assault or extremely bad accidents; but there are many other kinds - the unseen ones that lurk in our subconscious and come out to bite us when we least expect it. The effects of trauma can literally ruin our lives. So how do we find a way of understanding how to cope?

How our mind reacts to trauma

Our mind processes everything that happens to us, and if it is unable to do so, because an event is too shocking, or our mind is unable to put an experience into a logical framework; then that can become a mental block and our whole existence can be filtered through that experience or series of experiences.

'It was totally unexpected'
'I was unprepared'
'There was nothing I could do to prevent i'
'I could not control the situation'
'It’s ruining my life!'

A series of beliefs may form around the trauma, like a series of security doors leading to a vault - for example: feelings of guilt, helplessness and despair and fear of losing control.

What are the effects?

Trauma can affect us mentally, emotionally and physically. Sometimes, the response is delayed for months - or even years. The mind develops defence strategies to prevent or mask the psychological and emotional pain and if it is left untreated, the effects can lead to illness. Often people do not realise their symptoms are related to the trauma and sadly, their life tends to be influenced by it until the situation is so bad that they seek help.

The good news is that help is at hand. Hypnotherapy is especially effective, for it reaches the unconscious, where the experience is often deeply seated.

Hypnotherapy seeks to uncover, resolve and release the traumatic experience in a variety of ways. Naturally every client is treated as an individual and treatments vary from person to person, depending on their needs and the extent of the trauma.

If you have been affected by trauma and are experiencing some of the symptoms mentioned, then first of all give yourself some credit for surviving. You may feel guilty or inadequate and afraid, but know that this is to be expected in the circumstances. Don’t bottle things up or use alcohol/drugs to blot our your feelings. Use your intuition when sharing your experiences with friends as not everyone will understand. Find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable. Most of all, be kind to yourself.
